5 Truths I Wish I Knew Before Becoming a Sound Healer

(Read - or scroll 😆 - to the end to see my special announcement!)

When I first began, it was hard to find guidance or community. That’s why I’m so grateful to be able to share what I’ve learned with you now. 🙏

Everything I learned came from experimentation, and mostly from making mistakes.

✨ I want to share five truths I wish I had known when I was just starting out, so that anyone on this path can start playing with more clarity, intention, and compassion.

1️⃣ It’s Not Just About the Tools

Singing bowls, gongs, and tuning forks are powerful, but they aren’t the healing force:

You are.

If I wasn’t in the right headspace or set the right intentions, my sound baths would feel very superficial and not as transforming as it could be.

The tools don’t hold the power. You do.🧘

2️⃣ Your Own Healing Comes First

Before holding space for others, I had to do my own healing work.

Unprocessed emotions or energetic imbalances in me would ripple into the space I created.

That’s when I realized:

Self-care isn’t optional, it’s foundational.

3️⃣ Everyone Responds Differently

Sound doesn’t have a single effect, and that’s a beautiful thing.

Some people feel calm. Others cry. Some feel nothing. A few might even feel uncomfortable.

And it’s all valid.

The role of a sound healer isn’t to control the outcome, but to honor the uniqueness of the experience.

4️⃣ It’s Both Science and Spirit

Understanding the science of sound, such as frequencies, brainwave states, and resonance added depth to my practice. But so does trusting the intuitive, energetic side.

Learning the what and why behind what I was doing gave me confidence and clarity.

The best sound healing happens when both come together: grounded in science, guided by spirit.

5️⃣ Holding Space Is A Sacred Practice

This isn’t just performance art. It’s soul work.

When people show up to your sound bath, they may be carrying something heavy or raw. The most important thing I learned was how to hold space with compassion, boundaries, and integrity.

💫 Keep a curious mind.

There’s so much to learn when you start exploring sound baths and sound healing.

And there’s still so much I’m learning every day.

We learn, grow, and heal together.

Study the science. Practice often. And most importantly, stay present.

Set pure intentions. Your energy is the atmosphere people will be healing in.

Make sure every person feels safe enough to release what they’ve been carrying.

🙏 I hope these five lessons serve you as you begin to hold space for yourself and for others.

Sending love and some big hugs to go with it,
— Travis 🥰
